Alvina has started her lab at the UCL Institute of Health Informatics. She is passionate about improving the lives of people with chronic diseases through her research, which leverages electronic health records and innovative approaches from machine learning to causal inference methods to answer key questions for patient benefit.

Alvina was previously a Research Fellow and Tutor at Christ Church Oxford. She strongly advocates for increasing diversity in science to include individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.

Alvina was asked about the best piece of advice that she's been given, "Learn to surround yourself with people who are kind to you. Figure out people who you can build allyship with."

To commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science declared by the United Nations, she recently shared her experience as a female academic to inspire young women to study Science.
